EAVI, with the support of JCI – The heart of Europe, organized the workshop “Graphic Design for Beginners”. The training had the purpose of educating people on creating simple graphical and visual content, which is a task that is nowadays often asked in the workplace by people not professionally trained in design. Additionally, the media creation skills taught in the course are useful tools that enable people to more actively contribute to online discourse and to make their voice heard on social media platforms.
The workshop was organized as a 3-hour intense training through Zoom in April 2021. Promotion was conducted on the social media platforms of EAVI and JCI. 25 participants who work for various NGOs took part and were guided through a mixture of theoretical and practical activities. Specifically, the workshop featured a number of tasks in which all attendees actively participated, trained the use of the free graphic design tool Canva, presented their results and got feedback for them while working in teams to boost motivation and cooperation skills. After the conclusion of the workshop, the EAVI team provided the participants with a useful toolkit that summed up all the tips, tricks and advice provided in the life session. The participants provided positive and enthusiastic reviews by the end of the session, and several of them went on to join the EAVI individual members’ group. Finally, the workshop introduced a potential future partnership with JCI, an international organization which was initially interested in hosting the workshop for its team members, but afterwards expressed great interest in repeating the workshop in the future with EAVI.
