To achieve its objectives, EAVI develops and implements a wide range of activities. Much of the initiatives carried out involve citizens and organisations from many of the 28 EU Member States. They focus on the following main areas:

1. Promote active citizenship and media literacy
EAVI’s activities encourage the participation of citizens in the democratic process, and aim to contribute to enable effective communication between citizens. EAVI supports the adoption of initiatives which enable citizens to read, write, and participate with, the media to public life. It authors and disseminates the results of its most noteworthy researches across Europe.

2. Engage the European Institutions and media stakeholders
EAVI continues to represent citizens in the European sphere. In order to make a truly significant impact, EAVI focus its energies to influence the main industry players and policy decision makers, by way of participation in expert groups, lobbying activities and by participating in international conferences.

3. Consolidate and develop the Association and daily activities
EAVI also aims at continuing in its role as a coordinator of civil society initiatives, enhance its existing network of players in the field and develop new means to share knowledge and good practices.

More generally EAVI develops and implements a wide range of activities which promote active citizenship, media literacy and social responsibility; to foster civic awareness, communication welfare and democratic growth; to engage the interests of EU Institutions, and to influence relevant EU policies in order to encourage a better reflection of media users’ interests in policy decisions.

Is actively present in many international conferences on media-related topics as organiser or speaker. It participates in different experts groups such as the Council of Europe Working Group of Specialists on Public Service Media in the Information Society, the European Commission Media Literacy Expert Group and the European Commission Group on Active Citizenship.

Publishes scientific articles and research on media literacy.

Represents citizens’ interests within the European arena by informing policy decision makers, through the dissemination of the results of its research to public and private bodies, and raising awareness of the necessity for the improvement of  citizens’ abilities to access and use well the media.

Every action carried out has an international dimension.
