About

Swiss director David Bernet provides with this very detailed documentary, an insight into the legislative process at EU level.

The camera follows the actions taken at the level of the EU institutions by a handful of people who try to protect society from the dangers of big data and mass surveillance. The main players are the young  German MEP from the Green party Jan Philip Albrecht and the experienced former Commissioner for Information Society and Media and now member of the EU Parliament Viviane Reding.

Jan Philipp Albrecht and are trying to do the impossible and are faced with a hard, almost impenetrable political power apparatus in which intrigue, success and failure work close together.
For two and a half years David Bernet has accompanied the legislative process and condensed into a film that gives the audience a first insight into complex architecture of  power, where the goals pursued by the member states are necessarily intertwined with corporate interests. Personal data is the oil of the 21st century, and therefore everybody is after them: the challenge is protecting individuals against those who want to use them as a modern currency.
