EAVI Manifesto

As an International non-profit organization, EAVI is engaged in the promotion of initiatives which enable citizens to participate actively in public life, through proper use of the media.
With an eye on the future of the European Union and its citizens, our campaign priorities are to counter common misconceptions about the EU, and to raise awareness of the fake news phenomenon.

The EU is an extraordinary and unprecedented political humanitarian, economic and social experiment. The general mistake is to assume that the EU is perfect. The EU is not perfect, but its enormous advantages are often taken for granted – from free roaming on phones to ensuring peace and economic stability on a continent historically prone to devastating and near-constant war and conflict. However, these advantages are taken for granted.
It is through EAVI’s campaign that we will show you that even if EU is not perfect, it’s the best idea we’ve had so far (Guy Verhofstadt).

Euroscepticism fosters negative and hostile beliefs towards European policies and indeed the European Union itself. This successfully creates a warped national identity, and indeed creates an arbitrary hierarchy within citizens themselves, placing some social groups over others. This creates poor social cohesion and increases intolerance for and discrimination against foreign nationals.
Euroscepticism has emerged from the identity crisis that is the inevitable result of globalism and increasing integration with the EU.

The antidote is empowering citizens to know more about their rights and participate more and more effectively in the democratic life of our Union. Something that can be achieved in a joint responsibility among EU institutions, Member States, regional/local authorities and Civil society.
EAVI’s contribution (as part of civil society) is looking at the issue through the lens of Media Literacy, which is part of the cure to this crisis. ML allows connectivity across cultures and it promotes diversity.

Currently, the media’s role is so important because it is pervasive and powerful, normalising toxic opinions and false “facts”. This is why media literacy is so important; it enables citizens to think critically and take control of the information which they are continuously exposed to.

Our Mission is:

1. Provide materials to make civil society more media literate – ML is an essential tool in the battle against disinformation;
2. Spot fake news as it relates to the EU;
3. Focusing on the future of EU citizens.
