A new report from the European Audiovisual Observatory has been released to map media literacy across Europe.

As the skills of being able to readily critical assess and interact with the media continues to grow in importance a new report, Mapping Media Literacy Practices and Actions, from the European Audiovisual Observatory, part of the Council of Europe, has been released to document the measures being taken at national and European levels to nurture and promote media literacy competencies.

As the Observatory’s Maja Capello explains in the video below, this is the first mapping of media literacy projects in Europe so far. 547 projects and initiatives, involving 939 stakeholders, were analysed and it was found that “critical thinking” was the most common media literacy topic, representing 403 of the projects in total. Other major findings of the study include the fact that civil society plays a very active role in media literacy projects, representing around one-third of all stakeholders.

EAVI’s Secretary General Paolo Celot offered his advice to the Observatory based on our past mappings of media literacy in Europe.
