Expert Group on Active European Citizenship
The Active European Citizenship Group is coordinated by DG COMM of the European Commission.
The main goal is to address how to encourage the participation of European citizens in the EU project and activities. The dialogue also addresses major transversal and political issues of relevance to active European citizenship.
The Group was created to discuss major policy and methodological issues on citizens’ participation, sharing results from participants’ activities and exchanging experiences.This process improves the efficiency of the Europe for Citizens programme activities.
Approximately 50 key European organisations actively involved in the Europe for Citizens programme and interested in active European citizenship meet with the European Commission regularly to discuss issues linked with active citizenship and the implementation of the programme or other topical issues. This is referred to as ‘structured dialogue.’
