EAVI’s European Affairs

In 2015, EAVI will continue to represent citizens in the European sphere. EAVI aims to improve citizens’ access and use of media. In order to make a truly significant impact, we have decided to focus our energies to influence the main industry players and policy decision makers, by way of participation in expert groups, lobbying activities and by participating in international conferences. EAVI will review and disseminate the results of our most noteworthy projects for public and private bodies contributing to represent citizens interests through engaging media stakeholders, including the European Institutions.

The main objectives in EAVI’s European Affairs activities are to provide reliable information to EU institutions representatives on EAVI fields of activity, to draft and disseminate EAVI position papers and to monitor policies to inform EAVI and civil society networks. EAVI is filling a gap existing at institutional level, therefore its positions are likely to be welcomed and analysed by institutions.

EAVI’s European affairs activities will begin to represent a larger portion of the organisation’s activities. These activities will intensify as we gain more resources and active members. There is a democratic deficit in Europe insofar as the various points of view are not represented accurately and proportionately to European decision makers; the voices of citizens are not heard amid the noise created by interest groups of the media industry. The balance of power must be more fairly distributed among all the interested groups, with citizens interests better represented in Europe.
