Sharing Knowledge: An EAVI Media Literacy Campaign against Covid-19

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic situation which affects every single person, EAVI aims to share and update our existing resources, create new content such as image cards, infographic and articles, and disseminate these materials via our communication channels.

This section will contain content created by our team as well as sourced from the internet, aimed to help people navigate the current situation, from a media literacy point of view. We will also include some links to sites where you can get credible information on the coronavrirus and related issues.

European Audiovisual Observatory – Covid-19 Audiovisual Sector Measures (Daily updated EXCEL tracker)

As of mid-March 2020, they have been tracking information on specific national measures aimed at supporting the audiovisual sector in the 41 Member States of the European Audiovisual Observatory. In addition, they include measures introduced at the level of the European Union, as related, for example, to the European Commission’s Creative Europe Programme, and the Council of Europe. For example, included in this tracking is the Council of Europe’s Eurimages co-production fund. The measures they are tracking are specific to the audiovisual sector and include mechanisms such as public support, regulation, industry agreements and policy declarations, for example.

EUvsDisinfo – Tracking of Pro-Kremlin Disinformation Campaign on Covid-19

EUvsDisinfo is the flagship project of the European External Action Service’s East StratCom Task Force. In this section, they address, and respond to the Russian Federation’s ongoing disinformation campaigns affecting the European Union, its Member States, and countries in the shared neighbourhood related to Covid-19.

Reporters Without Borders – #Tracker_19 | Live updates of Covid-19 impacts of press freedom

Launched by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), “Tracker 19” is a tool made for an unprecedented global crisis. So named in reference not only to Covid-19 but also article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this project aims to evaluate the pandemic’s impacts on journalism. It will document state censorship and deliberate disinformation, and their impact on the right to reliable news and information. It will also make recommendations on how to defend journalism.

Here is the database that gathers all the falsehoods that have been detected by the CoronaVirusFacts/DatosCoronaVirus alliance. This database unites fact-checkers in more than 70 countries and includes articles published in at least 40 languages.

Ofcom – Cutting through the Covid-19 confusion

Ofcom has collected a set of resources to help cut through the confusion and provide people with the tools to navigate news and information about Covid-19. Many of these focus on debunking common misconceptions or harmful claims about the coronavirus. There are also some useful tips on how to seek out reliable content, how to tell fact from fiction, and how to find out who’s behind particular claims to help us all to ‘share’ information responsibly. A section for families, to help parents support their children’s critical understanding during this time, is also included. Ofcom UK also publishes weekly research findings which shows how people are receiving and acting on information during the current pandemic, including which sources they trust most.

European Commission – Coronavirus Disinformation section

The Commission has launched a disinformation corner under its Coronavirus response website. The webpage is available in all languages and content is updated regularly, as new false narratives are detected and rebuttals are prepared where appropriate.
