Media Literacy in the New Audiovisual Media Services Directive

The journey for the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive began in May 2016 when the European Commission first proposed its amendments. What followed was two years of intense negotiations between legislators. It wasn’t until June 2018 that a final draft was presented by the European Commission, and finally on the 3rd of October it was officially accepted, following their amendments, by the European Parliament. Addressing Disinformation? Less talk more action!

On 25th of September EAVI attended the conference ‘Addressing Disinformation: Anticipating threat, building Resilience and Fostering open dialogue’ at the European Parliament, organised by the International Republican Institute, the ECR Group and the EPP group. Scheduled in two panels, the discussion brought together several experts with various backgrounds to critically evaluate the phenomenon of disinformation, and to propose initiatives and measures to tackle it.
