Once upon a time we had a dream, that dream was called European Union.

Everything started with a fellow called Euroconstructivism. He was an orphan, and he didn’t know where he came from. He spent his childhood wandering around different countries, at the same time charmed by the beauty of the landscape and horrified by the damage war had caused.

He met a lot of people along the way and with them had a great idea: fund a team where they could be all together, and take decisions together to improve the places where they had been.

Euroconstructivism was said to be a dreamer, an idealist, but he was also really self-confident and a hard worker, and he succeeded in what he believed.

If this was a fairy-tale, we would have a bad character, which we don’t. There is, instead, a happy ending. What’s wrong then?

Fifty/sixty years later, after several efforts, commitment and compromises, Euroconstructivism and his friends had created a solid group, but they didn’t get the chance to live happily ever after.

A new fellow appeared, gradually intruding into in their happy  life. His name is Euroscepticism. He was a straightforward, judgy and active guy, who always wanted to challenge his friends. Euroconstructivism and the others, by the way, started to be afraid of the new entry Euroscepticism.

He felt he was being kept apart from the whole team, that his critiques were not heard and taken into account, so he was being angry at them. He then started feeling sad and lonely, and wanted to make new friends outside of the team.

Euroscepticism recruited several followers which didn’t completely understand what the team was doing for the countries where they lived, and felt challenged by the current system. They didn’t make sure to check what Euroconstructivism was effectively doing for them, they trusted Euroscepticism and kept on going. Euroscepticism grew in importance and everybody loved him. He made people feel safer, he gave the impression to care about everybody and take everybody’s worries into account.

Until that moment though, nothing had really happened, but Euroscepticism became every day more evil. He was so jealous of the team, that wanted to destroy it, he wanted all Euroconstructivism’s friends to be enemies, delete what they had been able to build together and forget that all this ever existed.

However, he didn’t know how to do this. He was awake every night thinking about the best way to split them up forever, but unfortunately, he wasn’t clever enough to figure out an efficient way.

He went to see a shaman, hoping he could help him.

The shaman was a really sharp and communicative man, who suddenly understood the man’s needs. He then advised him that the best thing to do was to denigrate Euroconstructivism and his friends by telling people false stories about them, so that people in all countries could start seeing them in another perspective.

Euroscepticism was happy that the visit to the shaman had been so rewarding, feeling though a little bit stupid not to have thought about this in advance. However, he was not sure the advice was enough.

He decided to go to the most powerful wizard in the nearby called Socialwizard. He was said to be really influent, but he was not human, he didn’t have physical characteristics. Euroscepticism was a little bit scared, but the fear couldn’t stop him, because he was really motivated in his intent. Socialwizard used to live in a cave in the middle of the forest. When Euroscepticism got in, he couldn’t find him, but an intense light dazzled him and all of a sudden, letters appeared on the cave’s vault. Just one sentence was written:

“Share your hunger with the society, share news people could be disappointed at, choose the correct people to reach, and you’ll succeed”

Euroscepticism was disappointed, he didn’t get the meaning. He started screaming and crying, but amid his suffering he saw it. A shining blue potion was on the floor, with a little message saying:

“Drink this potion, and people will believe you, whatever you say”

His mood changed instantly! He drank the potion, went home and followed the rules. He wrote billions of letters addressed to important people in other countries, he sent carrier pigeons to reach the most faraway places on Earth and joined a lot of secret sects to say mean things about Euroconstructivism and the team.

In no time, people started applauding and lauding him. He also managed to create a secret network of powerful friends in different countries, who wanted to take over Euroconstructivism’s friends and lead the country.

Euroconstructivism, on the other hand, was not prepared for this. He was so sure he was doing good for people that he didn’t think of assuring his followers and protecting himself. He used to lay in his castle, and didn’t perceive the risk until it was too late.

One day, he and his friends were supposed to have a party all together, and everybody was looking forward to that. Unfortunately, the day of the event, they all waited for ages for the last one to arrive, who never showed up. One of their friend left the team, and the Union was not the same anymore.
