EAVI Conducts Media Literacy Workshop at the Autistic Women’s Retreat 2018

On 22 September, EAVI attended the 2018 Autistic Women’s Retreat in Oxfordshire, UK to hold a workshop on media literacy for 15 participants – all autistic women from Britain, USA and Sweden. The workshop focused on media literacy concepts, and specific issues facing autistic women in their relationship with the media, both in terms of representation and participation. EAVI Roundtable Debate at the European Parliament – Democracy, Journalism and Literacy

In December EAVI together with the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom held the Democracy, Journalism and Literacy event at the European Parliament. The event was hosted by MEPs Barbara Spinelli and Curzio Maltese. The event focused on the dangers posed to media pluralism presented by new media and the threat to democracy this creates, as well as the role of media literacy and other initiatives to combat this. #MyStory Final Event. Media (Literacy) and Refugees.

The final event for the My Story Project took place in Brussels on 5 December 2017.     The full-day event was divided into two sessions. In the morning session, EAVI and My Story partners from Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Italy, France and Greece shared their experience and contributions to the project, including audiovisual material and a Dos and Don’ts Guide for journalists.   Grass root organisations shared their experience with their respective media initiatives. #MyStory: New Feature Documentary – Dissecting Journalism

#MyStory partner, The Hungarian Moving Image and Media Education Association has released their latest documentary for the #MyStory project, Dissecting Journalism. The film documents the event the association organised in Subotica, Serbia where a refugee camp has been set up on the Hungarian border. The event involved journalists, refugees and locals from Subotica and explores journalism about migrants and refugees through the lens of media literacy.
