Media Literacy in the New Audiovisual Media Services Directive

The journey for the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive began in May 2016 when the European Commission first proposed its amendments. What followed was two years of intense negotiations between legislators. It wasn’t until June 2018 that a final draft was presented by the European Commission, and finally on the 3rd of October it was officially accepted, following their amendments, by the European Parliament. On 25th of September EAVI attended the conference ‘Addressing Disinformation: Anticipating threat, building Resilience and Fostering open dialogue’ at the European Parliament, organised by the International Republican Institute, the ECR Group and the EPP group. The #MyStory: Media, Migrants & Refugees project was an initiative to raise awareness, promote discussion and assist journalists, migrants and refugees and the organisations working with them, to contribute to improve the media narratives of displaced peoples in a fair way.
